Navigating the Ups and Downs of Parenthood

Our Mindful Parenting Speaker Series kicks off on October 19 with Positive Parenting in Early Childhood.

12 Oct, 2022

We know that you are parenting in a time like no other. Dominican Community Connections is launching our 2022-2023 speaker series Mindful Parenting featuring top parenting experts — all offering support to families just like yours.

Our singular goal? To help you solve your toughest challenges at each stage of parenting. This year we are offering an exciting mix of programs related to raising healthy children, from toddlers to young adults. These insightful presentations offer up welcome perspective, along with opportunities to ask questions and connect with other parents in our community.

“I think as parents we are always searching for answers on how we can be better parents,” said Gianna Soefker, Director of Community Relations. “There is no handbook to parenting, and just when we think we have things somewhat figured out, our children enter the next phase of development.  We wanted to create a speaker series that hits each milestone of development for all our children at St. Agnes and St. Dominic.”

Our series kicks off on October 19 with a team of experts from Germantown Behavioral Solutions discussing Positive Parenting in the Early Childhood Years.

On November 3 we shift our focus to boys as best-selling author, David Thomas, addresses Raising Emotionally Strong Boys. Mr. Thomas, the Director of Family Counseling at Daystar Counseling Ministries in Nashville, has authored ten books including the best-selling Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing Boys and Raising Emotionally Strong Boys: Tools Your Son can Build on for Life. He co-hosts the “Raising Boys & Girls” podcast and has become a sought-after speaker across the country.

On January 31 former NBA star Chris Herren will address his personal struggle with addiction and relate his story to the themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug use, vaping and the responsibility of prevention starting with us all.

Later during the spring semester counselors from Germantown Behavioral Services will join us once again to focus on our daughters and ways to Model Healthy Emotional Responses during the elementary school years.

We hope you will join us for these engaging discussions that will enrich, educate and inspire you! All events are free and open to the community, so please bring a friend. Unless otherwise noted, presentations are in the Hook Theatre in Siena Hall on the St. Agnes-St. Dominic campus. For more information and to reserve your spot click here.
