Why A Boys' School

Back

Gentlemen and Scholars

Since its founding over 60 years ago, St. Dominic School has been devoted to bringing out the best in boys, nurturing their abilities, fortifying their minds, and preparing them to become Gentlemenand Scholars.

We believe that boys learn best through relational experiences. Find out more here.

At St. Dominic School we know boys learn differently. From our preschool through 8th grade, teachers and staff understand how boys learn best and are fully committed to implementing strategies that complement the uniqueness of boys. We understand that boys learn best when they are navigators of their own learning through choice and independence. We know boys learn best when they are encouraged to take healthy academic risks. We know boys learn best when given clear goals and direct feedback and when movement is incorporated throughout the day.

With a strong academic program at the forefront, character development is also an integral part of student life.  Boys are challenged to apply what they have learned to new situations beyond the classroom. They compete at the local, state and national levels in academic, athletic and leadership endeavors. Our students graduate from St. Dominic fully prepared to meet the demands of high school. They excel and are consistently recognized as leaders, ranking among the top in their class. Our alumni credit the foundation they received at St. Dominic for their later achievements in life.

What truly distinguishes St. Dominic School will not be found in the description of its curriculum and its extracurricular program. St. Dominic’s spirit is found in the character of its community, in the interaction between students and teachers, in the values that daily define how we live, and in the way we celebrate boys.

“While young men and boys can and do excel in many types of educational institutions, schools for boys focus with intention on learning that addresses not only how to excel in academics but also how to grow into a young man of integrity and empathy. In engaging and supportive single-sex environments, students explore their values and establish a foundation for making responsible decisions; they explore their own definitions of self, who they are and who they want to become; they learn to forge healthy relationships; they step out of their comfort zone to explore their full potential. They are preparing for their roles in a globally connected world.”
